Sex & Nudity
Sex & Nudity Reason
There are several instances of primarily upper body female nudity in keeping with the central character's fixation on women's bodies. Joel finds a girl in the shower in the beginning of the film. Through the heavy steam, her breasts and some of her buttocks gratuitously shown. A man removes a woman's dress (revealing her naked body) and kisses her. She turns around and reveals her breast and, briefly, her pubic hair. The two are then seen briefly having sex from behind with some visible thrusting. The scene ends with her on top of him, thrusting on a rocking chair (shown from behind). Although they are having sex, graphic (genital) nudity is not seen. A man takes off a woman's underwear in a close up (no nudity). The scene is done clothed and in a shot showing them from the shoulders up. In slow motion, there is some thrusting. In one scene, there is loud moaning from a couple having sex offscreen. The main theme of the film is prostitution, but (apart from Lana and Joel) there are no sex scenes with the prostitutes and their clients. Near the end while a man and woman talk in the park, the woman's nipples can be seen through her sweater. While it is not graphic, it is noticeable.

Violence & Gore
Violence & Gore Reason
Guido pulls a gun and threatens Joel and Lana in one scene but that is about it.

Profanity Reason
Occasional strong language. Around 30 uses of "fuck" etc.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking Reason
Lana smokes cigarettes, and pot with Barry. Joel and Miles smoke cigarettes. Lots of smoking and drinking at Lana's party. Joel and his friend Barry get high in one scene. Barry is shown smoking a joint. Joel and his friends heavily smoke cigars while playing Poker.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
Frightening & Intense Scenes Reason
A man threatens people in a car and a short car chase ensues. Rated R for language, some strong sexual content, nudity and brief drug use.
