Sex & Nudity
mild
Sex & Nudity Reason
Suggested but none actually shown. Talk of a man being celibate and not having slept with his wife for 10 years. Chauvelin is often suggestive in his comments to Marguerite. Two scenes show an unmarried couple in bed together. They are clearly undressed but covered. The woman then lies and indicates that she was with the man's father rather than him in order to save his life.

Violence & Gore
mild
Violence & Gore Reason
This is a movie about the French Reign of Terror and as such there are several beheadings. None are depicted graphically (ie. scene changes before the guillotine falls.) There is very little violence otherwise. In one scene the main character gets shot in the arm (not graphic at all,) and there is a sword fight at the very end, but it ends with neither character being wounded.

Profanity
none
Profanity Reason
Hell and damn are used occasionaly.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
none
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking Reason
The main character uses snuff occasionally. There are occasional instances of drinking, such as at parties, one where they all toast to "The Republic." Nothing excessive, but alcohol use is present.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
none
Frightening & Intense Scenes Reason
The executions can be intense although there is no blood and the bodies are not shown. Spoiler Warning : Near the end of the movie, the main character is marched out of the room to face a firing squad. The scene moves to another room and we hear a shot fired. The firing squad was actually made up of his team so he is not shot and he returns to the room later in the scene.
