BBFC Ratings info
EDWARD SCISSORHANDS is a US fantasy adventure in which an outsider is taken in by a kind suburban family, but struggles to find acceptance within the community. Violence: Scenes include a man being kicked and punched. A man with scissors for hands accidentally cuts others, producing brief sight of blood. There are sequences of mild threat. Scenes also include infrequent mild bad language ('dick', 'bastard') and discriminatory language ('retarded'). Occasional verbal and visual sex references include a woman attempting to seduce a man by straddling his lap. There is an undetailed reference to sexual violence.

Sex & Nudity
Sex & Nudity Reason
Kim's father mentions "glands" in reference to breasts, but the actual word is never used. Joyce has an orgasm-like reaction when Edward cuts her hair. She moans lightly, and curls her toes. Jim and Kim share a suggestive relationship, as they go camping together (no parental figure) and at one point, Jim tells Edward to warn if Kim's mom is coming. He says this as he and Kim head to her bedroom. Kim and Edward share two tame, romantic moments. Jim describes his dad as the only thing that sticks out of him is his dick. Jim lifts Kim and you can see her butt in panties. Edward describes his visit to the salon with Joyce by saying "showing me the back room where she took all of her clothes off". Joyce invites Edward into her back room at her beauty salon, and strips for him (we see a low cut dress) and climbs on top of him. He falls backwards, and runs away, horribly embarrassed. Women in the town later say that he tried to rape her.

Violence & Gore
Violence & Gore Reason
Edward accidentally cuts Kim's hand. She bleeds, but she's okay. While pushing him away from a truck, a young man accidentally cuts the face of a boy as he is trying to help him. He has blood marks on his face, but he's okay. A young man gently cuts his creator's face with little blood on his scissor. A young man defends himself by cutting another young man's arm with blood seen on his jacket and on his hand after getting tackled to the ground and punched by him. A young man pushes Edward away thinking he intentionally tried to hurt Kim. Edward pops the bed and water sprays out of it while Kim screams in terror. This scene is meant to be funny. Edward falls down after drinking lemonade. Edward vomits off-screen. A young man cuts accidentally his own face. He has blood, but he's okay. Some punches between young men. Edward stabs Jim and falls out of a window to his death. Mildly graphic with some blood visible. Edward gets mad when he sees Jim by scratching the window curtain. Later, he is seen scratching the hallway walls as he storms into the bathroom. He is then seen looking at himself in the mirror scratching the bathroom walls. Jim, Kim's former boyfriend , gets in a couple fistfights with Edward , one very brief shoving match with Kim. Jim, Kim's former boyfriend gets stabbed once below the screen in a final fight. Blood is seen covering his chest or stomach. Towards the end of the movie. There's some blood in Edward's scissorhands and Kim has blood in her dress. Mildly Disturbing.

Profanity Reason
Some curse words (nothing too strong) are uttered. Only a few uses of "shit", dick, "hell", "ass", "bitch" and one "Jesus". A use of bastard is used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking Reason
Some characters drink alcohol, while another drives drunk, nearly hitting a child. There is also a mild use of smoking seen at the barbecue scene. Edward drinks whiskey after being told that its lemonade. Later throws up off screen.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
Frightening & Intense Scenes Reason
Edward is creepy-looking but he turns out to be harmless, gentle and likeable. Overall, despite the creepy but wonderful imagery and some sad moments, this film is suitable for all ages. Edward has a flashback where the inventor dies in front of him from natural causes. This scene can make viewers cry. Edward gets tricked by Jim by locking him in his house as Jim and his friend including Kim escape. He struggles to get out. The police arrive and the doors become unlocked. He comes out of the house and is told to put his hands up so he does. The police think he is holding weapons and threatens him to shoot fire but is save by the neighbours. He then gets arrested. The scene where Edward is tricked into robbery is very emotional and will leave audiences feel more devastated. The appearance of the title character himself may be frightening to some viewers, as he appears as a young man with pale, scarred skin and scissor blades for fingers. Also, speaking of the fingers of his hands, this can even also remind some of Freddy Krueger from the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise because of his clawed glove, which could make Edward even more frightening for some but he is portrayed as a very likeable character. Some parts of story can be quite intense for some viewers because of the way Edward is treated, especially in the climax of the film. The old mansion Edward lived in can be creepy. The ending is very sad, even reaching the depressing state to some audience members.
