BBFC Ratings info
HEATHERS is a black comedy in which two high school students begin murdering their classmates. Language: There is use of strong language ('f**k') as well as milder terms including 'prick', 'dickhead' and 'shit'. Homophobic language ('fag') also occurs, but it is not condoned by the work as a whole. Sex: References are made to oral sex, masturbation, and intercourse, including a scene of implied fellatio. Suicide: A series of murders are disguised as suicides, leading to the issue being discussed among the local community. The narrative satirises the response of the teachers and how the issue is misinterpreted by some students, inspiring one girl to attempt to take her own life. In one scene a young man kills himself, but this occurs off-screen. The work as a whole does not condone or glamorise suicide. There are scenes of violence, including shootings resulting in some brief bloody detail and a woman being tricked into drinking bleach. In the background of one scene a young woman struggles as a man falls on her, implying that he may be forcing himself on her. However, no further detail is shown. Infrequent scenes of drug misuse include marijuana smoking.

Sex & Nudity
Sex & Nudity Reason
There is a scene towards the beginning of the film where it is implied that a girl and boy have sex A guy at a party mentions that he only came to get laid. Heather Chandler kisses a boy but stops. It is implied She then goes down on him off-screen. Later, we see her drinking water because of (you-know-what). A girl tells Veronica that her date with Kurt was detailed. A boy says to Veronica something about having a sword fight in her mouth (referring she gave them blowjobs) but she truly didn't. "Fuck me gently with a chainsaw" is said by Heather Chandler. When a girl breaks up with her boyfriend, he pulls her back onto the couch and aggressively kisses her against her will. She resists and is able to push him off her. A girl is pushed against a wall and is forcibly kissed by her boyfriend when she's trying to stop him from blowing up their school. Veronica invites Kurt and Ram to come to the woods behind the school so she can blow them as a prank after they spread a rumor that she slept with both of them (at the same time). The boys strip to their underwear but nothing else is seen, as she wasn't actually going to do anything with either of them J.D. attempts to seduce Veronica by grabbing her and forcibly kissing her twice. During a double date, Kurt is seen assaulting Heather who is struggling to get away from him.

Violence & Gore
Violence & Gore Reason
A girl burns her palm with a cigarette lighter socket and is in visible pain. A girl vomits off-screen and we see her with her lips covered with it. A game of croquet is held, with three girls (all "Heathers") using another girl's ("Veronica"'s) head (not particularly violent, just played for laughs) Two characters get into a fight: slamming each other into the walls, wielding a fire extinguisher, a gun and a knife. The results of the fight are shown as the two characters leave, with both of them bloody and bruised. A girl unwittingly drinks a cup filled with drain cleaner and collapses face first into a glass table, dead. A teen boy is shot in the neck. We see blood splatter. Another is chased by the shooter before being shot through the chest. We see the bullet enter, and small, red marks with minimal blood splatter. With the intent to murder, a boy crawls through a window to find his victim hanging from the ceiling. After he leaves, the victim pulls herself down, revealing the suicide to have been fake. A character graphically gets his finger shot off. We see blood running down as he tries to save himself. He is then shot twice more, though we do not see the bullet entry or blood. As his suicide, a boy straps bombs to himself and sets them off. We do not see the results, but we do see a witness covered in soot.

Profanity Reason
One of the most famous lines from the film is "Fuck me gently with a chainsaw, do I look like mother Theresa?" At least 3 abuses of the name "Jesus," at least 3 misuses of "Christ," and more than 2 dozen instances of "God" as a curse word. The 'f' word is used 15 times, the 'a' word over a dozen times, the 's' word dozens of times, "bitch" at least 3, "hell" at least 3, "damn" at least a dozen times, "prick" at least once. One character gives another the middle finger.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking Reason
Teen characters smoke and drink throughout the film although drugs is not the main theme of the film. A stoner girl smokes a joint in the school bathroom. A girl attempts suicide with sleeping pills, but is stopped before she takes them.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
Frightening & Intense Scenes Reason
This is a very intense black comedy. Definitely for mature audiences and for children who are taught about issues of suicide and murder can watch it with or without parental guidance. Nothing overly intense (maybe the shootings in the woods and the final scene) but the whole theme of the film is rather dark, with comedic/humorous undertones). The movie is about teenagers murdering other teenagers and setting them up as suicides. Many people may find this and several pieces of the content disturbing, despite the fact that it is played for comedy. A boy is chased naked through the woods before being shot to death. A girl, after being bullied and picked on constantly, attempts suicide by walking into the middle of a busy street with a note pinned to her chest. The entire class of children tease a character until she runs into the bathroom and empties an entire bottle of pills into her mouth. The final scene is a bit of a downer, but also optimistic and providing closure. The ending is pretty depressing and intense. JD plans to blow up the whole school with multiple packs of thermals spread around the school. Veronica comes down to the boiler room and fights him, wins, and figures out how to turn off the bomb. She thinks he is dead and exits the school. Then we see JD walk out of the doors behind her. He comes down into the grass and blows himself up Two people use each other to satisfy their own sick desires throughout the whole film. A boy rigs a school auditorium full of students to explode, and then blows himself up after his plan failing.
