BBFC Ratings info
THE KARATE KID is a US sports drama, from 1984, in which a teenager enters a martial arts tournament after being bullied at school In one scene it is implied a teenager is rolling a joint in a toilet cubicle, but he does not smoke it. The work does not condone drug misuse. Fight scenes include kicks and punches, occasionally resulting in bruises and brief sight of blood. There is occasional use of mild bad language ('shit', 'ass'), and milder terms including 'damn'. There is also infrequent use of discriminatory language ('nip', 'jerry') and discreet references to the treatment of Japanese Americans during WWII; the work does not condone discriminatory behaviour. In one seen a teen forces a kiss on his ex-girlfriend, but his behaviour is criticised. Undetailed references are made to a man losing his wife and child due to complications in childbirth.
