BBFC Ratings info
INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM is an action adventure in which an archaeologist searches for a mystical stone that has been stolen by a secretive cult. Violence: Scenes include fistfights, gunfights and use of bladed weapons, occasionally resulting in some brief bloody detail. In one sequence a man is choked to death with a whip, and it is implied another is crushed by a machine. People fall from heights and are consumed by crocodiles. In one sequence a man is whipped, leaving red bloody marks across his back, while a possessed child character whips another child, but without strong detail. Threat and horror: During a ritual, a man's heart is extracted from his body and is seen beating in the priest's hand before bursting into flame. The victim is lowered into a fiery pit. Severed fingers are seen on a statue, and the remains of two long-dead people are found in a secret tunnel. A man is tortured using a voodoo doll, characters evade spiked booby traps, and a woman is threatened with being burned alive. A man fights desperately to obtain an antidote after it is revealed he has been poisoned. There is use of mild bad language ('bastard'), and occasional mild sex references and innuendo. There are scenes featuring outdated stereotypes.

Sex & Nudity

Sex & Nudity Reason
There is a scene where a woman dress gets wet in the river, but no nudity at all. In a room, there is a statue, Jones must press the chest of the woman to open the secret door. No innuendo, just silly. Some light innuendo in one scene only.

Violence & Gore

Violence & Gore Reason
43 deaths in total. Some gory adventure violence along with Spielberg excellent thrilling tone of being edgy and having thrills in adventure movie we simply don't get anymore especially because of the backlash for the film, this film is fantastic the adventure tones and action is sometimes bloody/gory but well done and ok for tweens and even below During a night club scene, a man is shot (with blood), and a man is stabbed with a flaming shish kabab. Mola Ram (the prime antagonist) has an ornate headress with a shrunken head in it. A man hangs to death from a ceiling fan in a fight with the main character. A man's heart is ripped out on screen. He is then lowered slowly into a pit of lava, where he catches on fire and dies. A man is run over by a mine cart (not clearly shown). A few men are thrown into the pit of lava during a fight scene (not shown). Children are forced to work as slaves, where they are whipped if they do not obey and sometimes they are whipped regardless of whether they obey or not. Indy is forced to drink blood. The potion is stored in a cup made from a human head. A child tortures Indy with a voodoo doll. First by dipping it's back into fire and then again later by stabbing it's back repeatedly with a needle. Two people fight and one of them is dragged into a rock crusher and he is crushed and killed off screen, but you see blood on the crushing wheel afterwards. We see severed limbs and flayed human skin. Lots of hand-to-hand combat. A man has his heart ripped out in a tribal ritual, this is quite graphic and quite disturbing as the man remains alive due to a spell. There was a scene when they where eating monkey brains this is definitely the most graphic and goriest scene in the film Men fall off a broken bridge into a river below, bouncing off of the canyon walls on the way down, where they are eaten by crocodiles (slightly implied). All we see are robes being torn up by the crocodiles and some blood in the water. In the same scene, the viewer follows Mola Ram as he falls down the cliff, bouncing off of it on the way.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

Frightening & Intense Scenes Reason
This movie is fairly dark A man is crushed using a rock-crushing machine. Though his death is only implied, some blood is seen on the machine. Very disturbing. Racial slurs are used frequently, which can disturb some people who are not used to racism. This movie is widely regarded by parents "it should have been R" when they let their 6-8 year olds watch it off definitely should not be R and those parents don't actually actually think that, they just feel bad that their kids watched it, this is not for kids under the age of 9 but it is a smart brain rewarding risky adventure film we simply don't get anymore and it is fantastic. Not as bloody and gory as people make it out to be but there are several scenes involving it. A villager tells Indy a creepy story about how the Thuggees came and kidnapped their children and their sacred stones. Severed human fingers are shown draped around a statue of Kali (presumable a sacrifice of some kind). Blood can be seen on the statue. There is a meal put on at a palace where disgusting dishes such as eyeball soup, snakes, insects and chilled monkey brains are served. Indy is tortured by a voodoo doll. This is made all the more unsettling in that the act is perpetrated by a child who takes sadistic glee in causing him pain. There is a scene with insects everywhere, crawling over the main characters. A drugged guard suddenly jumps out at Willie and Short Round and hisses at them in a frightening voice. A child begs for death. A Thuggee is about to cut Short Round's throat however Indy stops him at the last second. Mola Ram is very scary in general because he shouts frequently and has a very booming voice and a scary laugh plus a brutal look on his face. Mola Ram (the prime antagonist) has an ornate headress with a shrunken head in it. Some may find the scenes where Indy turns evil quite unsettling. The scene where a man's heart get ripped out may be disturbing for young children. The extensive scene where the sacrifices are made inside the cave with lots of bright red lighting is extremely disturbing, intense and graphic. There are a couple of moments where someone is slowly lowered towards a flaming pit of lava as they scream in agony. Another person in charge of the sacrifice holds a heart in his hand, and the heart lights on fire as the person below is killed. The sacrificial scenes are very scary, particularly the first in which a man's heart is lowered into a volcanic pit and burned. Intense. Indiana Jones is forced to drink poison mixed with human blood. Indy assumes that several of the Thuggees had skinned several people and hung their dead skin up in a window. A very muscular Thuggee senselessly beats many people (slaves) whips. Children frequently scream in agony, as they are punished. There is a scene where Indy, Willie and Short Round are all cornered on a rope bridge. Having no way out Indy cuts the bridge sending several of the villains to their deaths while putting himself, Willie and Short Round in danger of falling as well. The child slavery is very disturbing, and even though Indy sets them free at the end, there are many disturbing scenes in the beginning where they are being whipped by the bad guys.
